BENEFITING: Joslin Diabetes Center
EVENT DATE: Oct 08, 2017
My life changed forever on May 15, 2001 when my doctor asked me if I was familiar with Type 1 Diabetes. I had been very sick for months, but I could not figure out why my body was falling apart. It wasn’t until my doctor spoke those infamous words that I knew my life was never going to be the same.
Being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes on that day was the best and worst thing that ever happened to me. I was forced to become a responsible adult at the ripe age of 12, my daily life now laden with too many finger pricks, injections, and insulin to carb factors to count. Yet with this burden also came the opportunity to take on a unique challenge and a renewed appreciation for good health.
The thought of running a marathon with Type 1 diabetes is intimidating, but running a marathon FOR diabetes is motivating. As a Joslin patient myself, I am honored to take on this challenge to help support others who are living with diabetes, and give back to a medical community that continues to give so much to me. Please consider supporting me in my marathon journey to help find a cure for diabetes!
