Our sweet Carolina was diagnosed with Leukemia (ALL Pre-B) on August 19, 2011. She was only 5 years old at the time of diagnosis. For those who know her well, she is now 7 year old going on 16! She is the baby of the family, her oldest sister is Isabella (13 yrs old).
Carolina is an amazing young lady, who thrives on life, music, dancing and art. Among all her favorites things, she is a water baby, she loves to swim and feel the water against her skin. Carolina also considers herself a Cowgirl and loves horses.
Her physical journey has been a blessing because she has not been the average cancer patient, but the emotional journey for her has been very difficult. She continues to question why she has cancer, how did she get cancer. These are all questions that no one can answer for her.
Carolina is currently in a study program that has allowed her to cut corners and for the treatment not to be so aggressive on her body. She at the beginning was very afraid of losing her hair and thankfully she really didn't. She has maintained a full set of hair all through her chemo treatment. Her hair thinned out but never lost it all. We refer to Carolina as our Little Warrior! She has been so courageous, hopeful and brave throughout the past 21 months. She always is so positive, happy and a with a big smile!
She awaits with anticipation and dreams of her last chemo dosage. She says " I just want to be normal and not take anymore medicine" She clearly though understands finger pokes and going to hospital will be a part of her life even after chemo. We are very thankful and blessed for the wonderful relationships we have built with the nurses, staff and doctors. It truly is another home to us. We walk in and feel all the uplifting energy, love and support.
