The Dugans are back! We'll be running Bay to Breakers and partnering with Joan and all of her classmates at Daraja Academy.
On the very same day we take on Hayes Hill the Daraja girls will be running their own race...separated by an ocean, united by a cause - girls' education.
Your support goes directly to educating and empowering these amazing girls, helping them reach their full potential.

Hear Joan's Story:
Since her mother’s departure at four months, Joan has been under the supervision of her grandmother. But because her grandmother cares for 10 other children, Joan has had to periodically find shelter with whichever relative has the ability to take her in. Joan has spent much of her childhood moving from one relative’s home to another.
In many of the homes, she found herself with most of the household chores- everything from managing a kiosk to making every meal. As a result, finding time to study was very difficult to do. Despite the instability of her home life, Joan scored incredibly high on her KCPE exams and has found a home at Daraja.
When Joan raises her hand in class, the teachers say “there is always a smile before an answer.” Joan’s name has become synonymous with her beautiful smile that can be seen any time of the day and truly brightens the campus.
Joan participates well in class and is quite talkative in small groups. She sees herself as a woman of WISH- Women of Integrity, Strength and Hope. Her goal is to become a doctor so that she could help the people of her community. She wants to relieve her grandmother of her responsibilities and knows that empowering herself through education is one of the best ways to do so.
