I am not a runner. I've always thought of running as a necessity, not a hobby. Something is chasing you- run away, necessary. Late for practice, run a lap- necessary if you want to participate. Runners high? Nope. not me.
So why on earth am I running a marathon? - My Mom was diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer in June, just a few short weeks ago and she is fighting a courageous fight. I found the charity Project Purple on a research hunt to find ways to help Mom in her fight, and so when they had an extra spot on their team for the NYC Marathon I accepted, this way I can fight alongside my Mom and help raise money for a pretty awesome charity as I do it. Although, full disclosure, on some of these runs I think writing a check would be way easier- but, hey who ever said this fight would be easy? So here I am, I can't promise anything amazing as I fit in my training runs between cross-country flights to visit mom and other crazy life moments but I do promise to fight really hard to get to that finish line (hopefully before the street sweepers ;) and most importantly I hope to raise some money that I know will be used to help patients and their families in challenging times and fund some innovative research! So here we go! Lets do this!
