Cheryl SAYS:
Hi Everyone - I want to than…
Hi Everyone - I want to thank all of you for your incredible donations and support! To-date, I've raised over $16k and hope to make it to $17k by the November 30th deadline. I'm still in the midst of writing personal emails to each of you but there are SO many, I am behind! Running and training for this marathon was trying at times but so worth it! I met some amazing people that have survived an Aortic Dissection (most do not). I even learned a dear and talented colleague survived one herself! I met friends and families that ran on behalf of loved ones surviving and those that had died. I met and made friends with total strangers as we huddled to stay warm for 4 hours on Long Island in 50 mph winds. I lost weight and got my former fit self back after years on hiatus of balancing work, a medically complicated kiddo and life. I learned that the city of New York and its people are AMAZING (Yes, I am a Bostonian by birth and I am saying, New Yorkers rocked it!). My cell phone died by the finish line and I had no way of finding my dear friend, Kate of San. Fran. So, random bystanders, police officers, you name it, provided their phones, warmed me up as I walked thirsty, cold and tired trying to find my way to meet my dear friend. Most of all, my drive and determination was fueled to continue to advocate, and face the hills and battles ahead. Avery, her Dad and I go at this alone mostly with the support of her grandparents who watch her so we can work. It can be tiresome and isolating. Yet, with your support, I was not only reminded of the amazing people I've met throughout my lifetime, I was reminded that people care and there is HOPE and you need to ask for HELP. I am recharged. Avery is now full of marathon jargon asking if she can run a marathon, if she can have a Team Ritter shirt, and telling us she's, "just going to go do a quick 3,6,9 miles." As for my race, I did a 4:09:47. My slowest marathon, but also weather conditions that day were BRUTAL with 50 mph wind gusts and average times 12-15 minutes slower. So, I was very happy as I gutted that race out on so many different levels. It was emotional when I finished and I could barely walk! Your donations...they are already making a difference with research that I know is taking shape but not at liberty to share! Happy Holidays and thanks for your generosity! We are thankful and we are determined more than ever!
