Kelsey+Jake's African Adventure
Organized by: Ervin-Owens
Celebrate our love by helping us change the world!
// boy meets girl //
Our love story is astonishing, unique and totally awesome... it is no surprise that our future goals would be much the same.
Kelsey – born and raised in Washington State, passionate about distance running, singing, social justice and helping communities around the world – met Jake – a brilliant, guitar-playing, flannel-wearing, marathon-running, kindhearted Oregonian -- nearly one year ago, and sparks flew!
Together, we want to change the world through community engagement, youth empowerment and social justice throughout AFRICA!
// passion for africa //
In 2008, Kelsey first visited West Africa as part of a community immersion project studying the impact of gold mining and globalization on impoverished rural communities. The trip was challenging, formative and very impactful on Kelsey's life. Then, in 2013, Kelsey founded a project in war-torn East Africa that encourages distance running as a means to build community for youth who are often excluded due to overwhelming political and social histories in the region. Her running project continues to serve as a catalyst with those youth for building peer relationships, setting goals and gaining self-confidence, and it is a platform for good ole' fun! To read more about the running project please visit the website here.
For years, Jake dreamed of serving, traveling or working abroad, but never had the opportunity. When he and Kelsey met his hopes and dreams for travel, cross-cultural ministry and worldwide adventure were reawakened.
In celebration of our marriage, we are dedicating our "wedding registry" to a service project abroad and ask for your monetary support, in lieu of traditional gifts, so we can serve together in Africa.
// our future goals //
One of our goals for 2015 is to travel to African together to work and serve alongside communities that help children in need.
As you might imagine, traveling to and in Africa is expensive, primarily due to airfare and ground transportation. In order to get there safely, we need your support. Truly, we cannot do this without you!
