With a lot of encouragement from my physically fit little sister and a new Trek bike from my parents, I decided Tour de BBQ 2011 would be the perfect "first" event to motivate me to get in shape. It was a challenging but rewarding event and biking has become a hobby and a great form of stress relief for me over the past year. My daughter Jordyn often gets to tag along on bike rides and enjoys it as much as I do!
While the Tour de BBQ 2011 was a fun, exciting, and tasty event, it was also an eye opening experience to see the thousands of people from all over the country that came to ride in support of the fight against cancer. The Grand Marshall was just a little toddler who had been diagnosed with cancer and was at the starting line with his family to cheer us all on. Last year, I rode for fun...this year, I will ride in memory of one of my husbands best friends who lost his fight against cancer, Randy Surratt. In 2010, at just 35 years old and after a long hard fight, he left behind his two young kids and hundreds of friends, family, and fellow firefighters whose lives he had touched. Visit the following website to learn a little more about Randy: http://printtheplanet.com/inmemoria.html. Also, make sure to take time to look through the pictures of the Tour de BBQ 2011 and of course, a picture of Randy and me on my wedding day.
