If you’ve walked in the Ann Arbor JCC building at some point in the last five years, you have probably been greeted by Ken Emerson. Wearing his trademark blue shirt, Ken knows not only the inside of the building like the back of his hand but also all the people who visit it each day.
Two months ago, Ken’s wife Pam was diagnosed with cancer in the lining of her uterus which has now spread to her lymph nodes and possibly her lungs. One of Pam’s four sisters was also recently diagnosed with a similar type of cancer in her uterus and it was she who encouraged Pam to get checked as a precaution.
Starting mid-December, Ken and Pam will be making daily trips to Karmanos hospital in Farmington for 9 weeks of chemotherapy, followed by 6 weeks of radiation at Harper Hospital in Detroit and finally 9 more weeks of chemotherapy in Farmington. Because of her weakened immune system, Ken and Pam will not be able to spend the holidays with their 3 children and 2 grandchildren.
With your support, we hope to raise as much money as possible to help offset the costs of Pam’s medical bills, the price of a wig and absorb the costs from their daily trips to Detroit for treatment.
We all know that cancer sucks and Ken and Pam have already seen an outpouring of support from the Ann Arbor community. It doesn’t matter who someone is or where they come from. Once you are part of the family, you will always be part of the family.
“To everyone in the Ann Arbor Jewish Community:
Thank you so very much for all your caring thoughts and prayers. This is a very stressful journey, not only on me, but also on my wonderful husband, Ken. Your acts of kindness, support and the willingness to help are so gratefully appreciated. We really feel like we are part of the community and thank you for your generosity in our time of need.
