“I am impressed with leadership, and that’s why I am a part of the Grassroots Girls Club. The club is passion-driven, and I am enticed by an organization based on the idea of starting from the roots of the community and working up, instead of starting at the top and trickling down,” Teddy said. Teddy, a highly capable, extremely well spoken young woman, almost cannot believe she is already a Form 4. “The happiest moment that I can remember is coming to Daraja, and every time I return from break, I feel that happiness all over again.”
Daraja is a safe haven for Teddy, who routinely returns home to find angst. “The arguments, the people, everything about home life distorts my mind. Recently when I came back to Daraja, I came back unfocused. But I spoke to the nurse. I practice good relationships with my mother despite how she acts, and I am back to being Teddy again.” Teddy, who wants to be a legislator one day, says her true passion is and always will be helping people.
