Thank you for taking the time to read my message. The conditions facing African American communities are gentrifiication, lack of opportunities, low education levels, low income, mass incarceration, lack of black owned businesses, low community political efficacy, and gun violence. I believe these conditions can be improved.
My mission is to create a social enterprise that will help solve some of these problems. In Atlanta, developers are purchasing land in predominately black neighborhoods. Often times, residents are unaware of the development efforts and, as a result, are displaced from their homes. This phenomenon is happening in cities all over the world. The demand for living and work spaces is increasing because of more people moving to cities for an urban lifestyle. My family and I were displaced by the construction of Centennial Olympic Park, so I understand first hand the effects of gentrification. The relationship between developers and residents can be improved with technology that facilitates communication. This technology can be a mobile app or a website. My teammates and I seek to create a mobile app that will provide residents of gentrified communities with information about redevelopment efforts, and give developers the chance to offer better opportunities to those residents. Connecting developers to communities can create jobs and business opportunities. In order for me to make this happen, I need some extra training.
I am fundraising to attend three conferences and take three classes that will accelerate my learning. The combination of classes and conferences will improve my skill set and network. The conferences and classes will help me learn about social entrepreneurship, computer programming, data science, digital marketing, and content creation. So far, startingbloc has donated $650, the Center for Civic Innovation has provided me mentorship and access to the center's events, Elevator Factory has provided digital media training and office space, and goodie nation has arranged a meeting to pitch to investors in January. As you can see, I have been working. However, I need a little more training to increase my chances of success.
I am asking, humbly and graciously, for a donation to my cause, to help make inevitable gentrification more equitable. My goal is $11,000 in three weeks. Its Bold and ambitious and possible with your support.
