THE STORY:

HELLO,
I am Keoko, I was nominated by my guidance counselor to the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine. I received an official invitation and am honored to attend. The forum is dedicated to helping prepare me to be a future physician and leader in the field of medicine - for the opportunities and responsibilities which lies ahead. I will be attending with other nominated, high achieving students from across the United States who are interested in the medical field.

My dreams are to become the youngest black Neurosurgeon. I have already completed the UMDNJ - Mini-Med Program in Newark, New Jersey as a high school freshman. I became CPR certified as part of that program at the age of 14. I attend various conferences with the Mentoring in Medicine Program that is run out of Montefiore Hospital, in New York.

At this time I am trying to fundraise to attend this very prestigious program I was nominated and accepted to. I also would like to continue my journey by attending the summer neuro-science program at Emory College. The Emory program will examine the science of brain and cognitive enhancement techniques while exploring both the history of these techniques and predictions of future enhancement technologies. Topics to be covered include drug enhancements and mood manipulation, electrical stimulation of the brain, cochlear and visual implants, deep brain stimulation for the treatment of neurological diseases, motor prosthetic devices and memory enhancement technologies. We will also discuss the ethical implications of possible future developments in this field, including genetic manipulations and the use of brain implants to dramatically increase our capabilities. The Emory Pre-College Program is now on iTunes U! You can access interviews with some of the Emory professors who have taught in this program. The link will open in iTunes, and you may download Emory audio and video for free.

Thank you so much for having an interest in helping me to fundraise and attend these two very important programs that will help me to become a future young black neurosurgeon.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT IN THE PAST, NOW, AND IN THE FUTURE.
