BENEFITING: The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp
EVENT: Team HITW NYC Marathon 2016
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
This November 6th, I'll be running the NYC Marathon. It's something I've wanted to do since I moved to New York 14 years ago, and finally decided "sometime" should be "this year."
When I run next month, I will be doing so in support of an organization that has made quite an impression on me and that I wanted to join in their cause.
The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp provides "a different kind of healing" to more than 25,000 seriously ill children and family members throughout the Northeast – all completely free of charge. The Camp was founded in 1988 by Paul Newman to give every child, no matter how severe their illness, the chance to "raise a little hell" and experience a traditional summer camp, but one built specifically to handle their medical needs.
When I was growing up, I had the good fortune to attend a camp in Northern Ontario, Canada each summer. It was a defining experience for me– giving me great friendships, lots of fun, an appreciation for the wilderness and, in my case, my future wife!
There are so many charities out there that do such important work in support of curing diseases and other illnesses. But the idea of giving children who are facing severe medical obstacles the chance to experience the fun and camaraderie of summer camp, an experience they wouldn't otherwise have, resonated with me.
So, please consider joining me in support of the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp - at whatever level you feel comfortable. All donations are 100% tax deductible, and certainly go to a great cause.
And please pass this along!
