This year I am honored to run the 2018 Boston Marathon for the Joseph Middlemiss Big Heart Foundation (JMBHF). Having been a runner for over 25 years, completing the Boston Marathon has been a goal of mine for many years. This year I will cross this event off my bucket list; just a few months shy of my 40th birthday. I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to run for the JMBHF as the foundation has had a such a positive impact on my personal life as well as so many others. I feel so fortunate to have been connected with this foundation and have enjoyed getting to know Scott, Kate, Jack, and Grace. I wil run this year's Boston Marathon for Joseph, who lost his life to Cardiomyopathy at the young age of six, for Jack who is one of the strongest little boys I know, and for all those heart warriors who are so brave.
On September 23, 2013 six-year-old Joseph Middlemiss lost his life to Cardiomyopathy, a disease of the heart muscle. During his short life, Joseph demonstrated the positive impact that love and kindness can have on so many. Upon Joseph’s passing, the Middlemiss family created the Joseph Middlemiss Big Heart Foundation to honor their son’s life and all that he exemplified.
The Foundations 3 Main Objectives:
1. To expand "The Joseph Middlemiss All You Need is Love Mission," fostering the spread and documentation of Random Acts of Kindness on local, national and international fronts.
2. To educate children on the power of kindness by supporting the efforts of schools (creating and leading motivational assemblies, providing books and related resources), and empowering students through scholarships for music and martial arts
3. To contribute to research for and spread awareness of childhood heart conditions while providing financial, social and emotional assistance to families impacted by these.
Though we have only known of the foundation for two years the impact it has had our family has been profound. We have performed several (anonymous) acts of kindness for complete strangers, emphasize the importance of kindness in our roles as parents and educators, and proudly wear our JMBHF shirts during road races to spread awareness of Cardiomyopathy and carry on Joseph’s legacy.
Please consider making a donation to support the excellent work and mission of the Joseph Middlemiss Big Heart Foundation. We also encourage you to perform a simple act of kindness!
