Kevin Shanley is Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at SUNY New Paltz and President of the NY Nightshade.
The NY Nightshade exists to provide opportunities for Blind & Visually Impaired persons to learn and play the emerging parasport of Blind Ice Hockey. In 2015 the NY Nightshade became the first Blind Hockey Association registered with USA Hockey.
As president, Kevin manages the daily operations of the NY Nightshade, and works with USA Hockey and the Canadian Blind Hockey Association to strategically grow the sport. Together these three organizations have organized two Blind Ice Hockey Summits at the Ice Time Sports Complex in Newburgh NY, and the first Blind Hockey demonstration game at the USA Hockey Disabled Hockey Festival in Buffalo NY. In April 2016 they will again work together to facilitate the first Blind Hockey series at the USA Hockey Disabled Festival in Detroit MI.
Kevin is also an athlete; he has played every position on the ice except goalie. He has participated in every Blind Ice Hockey game that has taken place in the United States, and participated in each of the Canadian Blind Hockey Championships.
No one in the NY Nightshade organization draws a salary from the organization. Each penny raised goes toward growing the sport and providing oportunities.
