The Khalili Foundation is a vibrant partnership between the Khalil Center for Bariatric Care, local organizations and businesses, and the communities of Los Angeles County. Together we will forge a new path of empowerment in the fight against childhood obesity.
Programs and Services
Through a comprehensive, year-round approach to informing and enabling children and their families to take control of their health and their lives, the Khalili Foundation aims to intervene in childhood obesity. By providing direct access to education, information and activity, we will help to foster long-term, sustainable change.
Local School Prevention Programs – The Khalili Foundation will initiate programs in public schools throughout the Los Angeles area, most notably in disadvantaged neighborhoods. Foundation representatives will teach students and educators basic nutritional science and help them create a lifestyle plan that focuses on healthy eating and physical fitness.
Health Grants for Healthy Living – The Foundation will offer grants, based on need, to children who demonstrate a strong desire to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Examples include vouchers for fresh, organic food; stipends for sports team memberships and gym memberships; and stipends for tools that enable healthy living, such as exercise equipment and fitness gear.
Health Education Programs and Resources for Health Care Providers – The Khalili Foundation will provide curriculum, materials and lectures about early prevention practices for combating obesity to health care providers who work with children in underserved Los Angeles communities.
Pro Bono Bariatric Surgery and Care – The Foundation will fund surgery and care, at minimal or no-cost, through the Khalili Center, selecting patients based on medical urgency and economic need.
Public Advocacy – The Foundation will also launch an advocacy campaign dedicated to educating the general public about basic nutrition, food labeling and physical fitness—and how to create healthy lifestyle changes.
