BENEFITING: KICKED IT IN HEELS INC
EVENT DATE: Oct 22, 2015
October is breast cancer awareness month!! Breast cancer accounts globally for 1.38 million cases and 458,400 deaths. Great strides have been made between screening and treatment advances to reduce the risk of death, however health care disparities still exist! Young adult women - particularly women of color - tend to present with more aggressive breast cancer. Even after successful treatments, the disease can have a significant impact on how women perceive their person, image, and sexuality!
Our Mission: To further the end of health care disparities in breast cancer by focusing on breast cancer survivors, specifically women of color and young women, providing basic information on screening and survivors’ experiences as they transition. After diagnosis, we are encouraging lifestyle adjustments and dialogue, and offering navigational services and workshops focused on fitness, beauty and wellness.
