The Story

I will be running the Fairfield Half Marathon in June and the Disney World Half Marathon in January in memory of my mom Kay who passed away in February from an undiagnosed blood clot after a successful surgery to remove a brain tumor.  I will be running as a part of Team Stop the Clot® and raising money to benefit the National Blood Clot Alliance, a a 501(c)(3), non-profit, voluntary health organization dedicated to advancing the prevention, early diagnosis and successful treatment of life-threatening blood clots such as deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and clot-provoked stroke.

Our Story: My mom Kay was a wonderful woman. She did so much for our family her entire life. When she was diagnosed with a brain tumor on December 28th, 2017 I was hopeful that everything would be okay. Mom had a wonderful surgeon, Dr. Almenawer. She did remarkably well but succumbed to a blood clot on Wednesday, February 1st, 2017 at the Brantford General Hospital at the age of 65. The doctors and nurses went through two other diagnoses before they finally did the lung test which confirmed there was a blood clot. Even a clot buster wasn't enough. Sadly my Dad lost his wife of 45 years, and I lost my beautiful mother.

I'm raising funds for the National Blood Clot Alliance to help raise awareness in Mom's memory about blood clots and the severity of misdiagnosis. Please consider donating to my fundraiser so that no family has to endure what we have.

The Facts:
•Blood Clots kill more people each year than AIDS, Breast Cancer and motor vehicle accidents combined.
•An estimated 900,000 Americans are diagnosed with blood clots each year. 100,000 will die.
•Blood Clots kill one person every 6 minutes
•Although blood clots can be prevented, fewer than 1 in 4 people know the signs and symptoms, making awareness so important.
•274 people will die today from a blood clot, and tomorrow, and the next day. Every day, 274 Americans will die of a blood clot.
•Many of these deaths could been prevented with increased awareness and education. Knowledge is power!
