LAUREN IS KICKING HER BUTT TO SAVE YOURS at the 2012 NYC Marathon. You can kick butt too by donating money to prevent, detect and fight colon cancer. Lauren is running in memory of her friend Aimee Norman who was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer at merely 43 years of age. Aimee's body lost it's fight with cancer this Spring, but Aimee's spirit lives on in her husband, their two daughters, and her countless friends and admirers.
Aimee's vocation and passion was to help the poor and marginalized in the city of Charlotte and all over the world. No one could motivate people to help people like Aimee. Her selfless spirit changed the world one hug, meal, mission trip, poverty simulation, habitat house, and iced coffee at a time.
Lauren ran her first half marathon in 2009. To motivate for the 13 miles she would run, Lauren wrote the names of 13 people she was grateful for on her arm. Aimee was #1 on that list (see picture). Lauren's best friend and husband Jason Holder will coach her through the next several months of training to make sure she's ready to finish her first (and only?) marathon in Aimee's honor.
Get Your Rear in Gear's mission is to empower local communities to promote prevention and early detection of colon cancer and to provide support to those affected. Lauren picked this charity because Aimee was diagnosed with colon cancer WELL BEFORE the age doctors recommend people are screened for it. Colon cancer is finding younger and younger victims, and we have to get the word out.
