Kids In Danger (KID) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting children by improving children’s product safety.
KID was founded in 1998 by the parents of sixteen-month-old Danny Keysar who died when a portable crib collapsed around his neck in his Chicago childcare home. Although the crib had been recalled five years earlier after three deaths, word of its danger had not reached Danny’s parents, caregiver, or a state inspector who visited the home just eight days before Danny’s death.
For over 15 years KID has walked alongside families like Danny’s to advocate for safer children’s products. Our objective is to be a fierce advocate to prevent more families from experiencing the devastating pain of losing a child to a completely preventable product failure.
To that end, KID has partnered with other organizations and developed resources to educate families on the life-threatening hazards posed by using unsafe products and given them the tools they need to keep children safe. We are dedicated to being the most highly regarded child products watchdog; an achieved goal we are nationally known for.
Currently, KID is working to meet the increased demand for our outreach and educational programs & services. Getting accurate information to these families is more vital than ever if we are to keep children safe and additional resources are desperately needed to continue the lifesaving work we are accomplishing.
At the same time, we are focused on improving product safety and design, so fewer dangerous products enter the market.
The KID Action Team will help KID fulfill our mission and keep children safe.
