Hello. My name is Skye. I’m the coach of all of the basketball teams in Nakivale settlement – the men, women and the kids. I’m originally from Congo. I’ve always loved basketball and coaching and I’m glad to be able to do it here in Nakivale.
But we have one really big problem. Our basketball court is really terrible. It’s dangerous. It’s not flat. There are lots of bumps and bits of gravel everywhere. My players often get injured when they play. We did get some help in leveling the court and standing the hoops up straight like they should be. But now, we really need to put concrete down so that the court is like a real basketball court.
If we can do this, basketball teams from outside Nakivale might come here and play with us. Now, anytime we want to play another team we have to leave and go play somewhere with a good court.
So, that’s my idea – a layer of concrete for our basketball court. I’m running with my team at the World Refugee Day 5k to see if it can happen. I hope you’ll support us and join us.
