This July, families from all over the world will embark on a journey to Kenya to work alongside our partner community in Mbita. Our goal:
*Build a new classrooms at the primary school - $12,000
*Provide salaries for the 6 wonderful teachers at the primary school for the year - $6,000
*Repair the floors, walls, windows, and doors at the current school and repaint the playground - $2500
*Install 7 new rain catchment and water filtration systems - $5200
*Construct new homes and latrines for those widows and their families that are most in need - $5,000
*Fund an annual medical clinic for the community complete with nurse, medications, and hospital referrals - $2,000
*Support our community partners in Maralal and Lamu with any remaining funds - our impact will be countrywide!
Family philanthropy is at the root of what we do as we strive to empower our younger generations to get out into the world and learn the importance of giving back, traveling responsibly, and shopping fair trade. Last year, our families raised $16,000 for this community in Kenya and built an entire administration block for the primary school and a clean water system for the village. We then traveled to Mbita to spend time with the families in the village, help build homes for the women, and contribute to the local tourism initiatives so badly needed in this part of the world.
This year, we are aiming higher. We are hoping to raise the funds needed to build two more classrooms at the school. This is so important to the community! As the students continue to graduate from one class, they need another space to grow into. Land was generously donated by the chief in the village...now, it's our goal to raise the funds needed to build these two new structures so the children can have a safe, clean, and inspiring place in which to learn. We will also be building several new homes for the women and their families complete with rain catchment and water filtration systems. And if we can exceed our goal, we will arrange and fund a medical clinic for the community - complete with a nurse, medications, and hospital referrals.
