Kids and Cameras
Kids and Cameras is a program of Media Hub ATX, a nonprofit dedicated to enhancing the educational and cultural experience of youth in the Austin area.
This summer Media Hub ATX will be providing hands-on programs in partnership with the Neighborhood Longhorn Program (NLP). The NLP has selected two middle schools to pilot the program this summer and your support helps ensure all children, regardless of financial ability, can fully participate in the program.
The summer pilot provides tweens an opportunity to explore the basics of digital audio/visual production in a hands-on approach, keeping them engaged and learning during the summer months. In collaboration with their peers and program facilitators, this four-week pilot program will take youth from concept to finished mixed media product.
During our summer workshop, our youth will learn:
- Storytelling through scriptwriting exercises and building storyboards.
- Preproduction planning
- Hands-on camera experience with smartphones and professional, easy-to-use equipment
- Post-production film editing using iMovie/Final Cut
Our Dedicated Facilitators
Our dedicated facilitators and mentors are educators and industry professionals who have taught filmmaking to students in classroom settings and have mentored upcoming young professionals on set and in the studio. They share a passion for inspiring young people to develop storytelling and technical skills at an early age.
Each facilitator shares the belief that through creating an intentional learning atmosphere, one where youth are respected, we can help build confident mindful leaders.
What We Need
Your generous support helps ensure no child is excluded from participating in our summer program. The funds raised will cover costs for staff, supplies, transportation, field trips, tee shirts and nutritious snacks to keep our growing Tweens healthy and strong. Should we have the good fortune to exceed our funding goal, we will happily add additional pilot programs in middle schools and high schools at the discretion of the NLP.

Media Hub ATX and the Neighborhood Longhorn Program have come together to give youth of Austin a "uniquely Austin" learning experienced focused on the arts for which it is known. Early exposure to the process of digital audio/visual production helps students build core competencies in planning, collaboration, technical skills, and proficiency using digital software. In addition, students who would not otherwise be able to afford program fees can participate in collaborative cultural and education experience.
