All it takes is $15 to make a difference. $15 for the kids.
I was recently introduced to Kids Creative through one of their board members. One Saturday morning, I tagged along with him to the Upper West Side to watch a Kids Creative free workshop at the local NY Public Library.
In just two short hours, I watched a group of shy little kids warm up their imaginiations and write and perform a play and song! The staff does a really great job of drawing kids out and teaching them to collaborate with their classmates - who they may have just met. They use the phrase "Yes, and..." to reinforce a supportive and collaborative environment, where there are no "bad" ideas and everyone can contribute to the creative process.
Support for this organization supports the youth of NYC by providing scholarships to the Kids Creative programs (for financially qualified students). This gives kids a safe, supportive environment to go to while school is out for the summer or after school. Kids learn conflict resolution, creative thinking competence, and other valuable skills to help them become successful young adults.
Just $15 provides a safe productive afternoon for 15-20 students. $15 gives the gift of community, of a role model, and of creativity.
