I'm going to Mexico to teach Music!!!! Read more below!!
Most people know Puerto Vallarta as a tourist town in Mexico where they spent a, "blurry spring break" in college. Others know it simply as a destination for the sunny sands and relaxation away from life in the USA. But for the people who live there it's home.
Behind the glitzy tourism that attracts so many people is a town which, like many in Mexico is struggling for structure for a restless youth. Many kids live on the streets, many live a life of poverty and still some are caught up in the violence and dangers of the drugs and gangs.
The OEPV (Orchestral Escuela de Puerto Vallarta) is a program which aims to break the cycle of poverty through education and exposure to music. They take kids both from stable backgrounds and off the street and give them instruments to learn, teachers to educate and most importantly friends to support.
Through sharing the gift of music with kids who would never get the chance to learn otherwise they are able to be a light in the darkness. A spark to the flame of creativity and inspiration. A beacon of hope in an otherwise dismal situation.
Donate to help kids find music. Donate to help keep a program going that helps to keep kids off the streets and away from a life of violence and drugs. Donate to help a kid find inspiration and joy in creating music for the first times. Donate to help a kid smile when they hear a song played for the first time. Donate to help a kid build confidence in learning a new instrument. Donate to feel good about your day. Donate to know you're making a difference in someone else's life. Donate because you like the idea of me living in Mexico and teaching a little kid. Donate because the day of the week ends in AY. Donate because it's raining out. Donate because it's NOT raining out. Donate because these just seem to get more ridiculous the more you read right? But hey, Donate or don't; either way is fine with me:)
