maryam wrote -The Children’s Hospital is associated with the Association des Amis de l’Hôpital des Enfants de Rabat, which was created by a group of Moroccan women to raise funds to provide moral and financial support to the families of the children whose children are sick. There are few Children’s Hospitals in Morocco, and therefore many families come from all over Morocco to bring their children.
Almost half of these children must stay in the hospital more than 2 weeks, and the mothers also stay with their children. The association has raised funds to paint and renovate the rooms, they have purchased televisions for the mothers and children and sofas for visitors. At times, the hospital has a shortage of medicine, and the association also provides funding for medical costs.
The website seems to be down but it's normally accessed at www.aaherabat.com
I will work in the Oncology and Asthma Wards. The Oncology Ward has a playroom and a teacher, as well as computers and video games and volunteers help the teacher and assist children with their work.
Goals of the Partner Program
Providing distraction and comfort to the children who are in the hospital for treatment. Having the volunteers there to play with the children is helpful to the children’s morale, while they are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The volunteers are at the hospital to provide activities and distraction to the children, such as coloring with pencils and crayons, doing puzzles, leading the children in arts and crafts projects, and teaching Basic English words through informal activities.
I'll be in Rabat for 2 weeks, working with these kids to help bring them more joy and hope to make some sort of lasting impact in their lives. I think in the end they will bring me more joy and a sense of responsibility towards my fellow humans.
If you want to give, please consider this organization. I have donated to them and will be visiting the kids on weekdays for 2 weeks during a break from my normal job.
Thank you! Shokran! Merci!
