This event was started by parents of children with a rare liver disease: biliary atresia. This disease is rare (<1:20,000 births) and is virtually unknown to people outside of the medical world. Biliary atresia (BA) causes the liver to not function properly and is the #1 cause of pediatric liver transplantation. Mel and Dot were brought together in their effort by their sons Eli and Wyatt. Both are active, crazy and fun boys who live life to the fullest while managing their disease. Wyatt transplanted in May of 2012 and this cemented the mom's dedication to funding research into BA and other causes of pediatric liver disease.
