Welcome to the Kilimanjaro Summiteers for Breast Cancer team page, supporting the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
Reason the team is doing the Adventure4Charity challenge: Our Team Leader’s sister is fighting breast cancer and this our way of supporting her, raising awareness about breast cancer and raising much needed funds into breast cancer research. Our team is made up of a bunch of women who are all friends because of our common interest in fitness and in particular running. It seems like the perfect fundraising event for us. We are all looking forward to training together to get fit enough to summit Mount Kilimanjaro - Africa’s highest mountain.
Fitness Goals: Working together as a team, supporting each other each week in training, reflecting on the hardships of breast cancer sufferers, and working hard so that on summit morning we can all reach the summit and stand on top of Africa celebrating our achievements, knowing we have raised a lot of funds for our cause.
Biggest fear about the challenge itself: The biggest common fear in our group is the arbitary nature of altitude sickness. Even some of the fittest people suffer altitude sickness and so even though we’ll all be physically prepared for the summit, we may still feel the impact of altitude. The itinerary has plenty of time for acclimatization so we’ll hope for the best!
What excites me about this challenge: travelling to a new country, stepping outside of my comfort zone, with a bunch of great friends, and all for a very worthwhile cause.
