In a few weeks, my family will be setting out on a great adventure. We will be heading on a nine-day trek up Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania – the highest mountain in Africa at 19,341 feet. .
When amazing opportunities such as this are presented, there is an inherent period of reflection and a sense of gratitude – not only for our health, but also for the experiences over the years which bring us to this moment. We’ve been blessed with many mentors and opportunities which have enabled us to accomplish our goals.
But one experience stands out in getting us here today and that is our shared passion for the outdoors and for supporting recreational opportunities. Whether it was a local soccer program, ski team, horseback riding or little league each of us has benefitted from the opportunities afforded by organized recreational and sports activities.
http://www.goodsports.org/ supports recreational opportunities for children nationwide. As we take this step forward, we are hoping that everyone reading this can take a step forward by donating to help children achieve the benefits of the outdoors. We are asking our friends, coworkers and family to support us in this adventure by donating $1 for every thousand feet we ascend. We are starting at sea level in Boston and climbing 19,341 feet to the top of the highest free-standing mountain in the world. It’s a long trek (more than 90 miles), but knowing you are behind us will give us the extra motivation to get there.
