"To aspire to greater heights -- literally -- to soar, however figuratively, above the valley crowds and into higher elevations"
Having the opporunity to climb Kilimanjaro seems to be a once in a lifetime opportunity which I am very excited for. Additionally, I'm excited to use this experience as an opportunity to help others who have been affected in some way by cancer. I started climbing over 10 years ago with my father in Colorado where I did no training, didn't have the proper clothing, and wore sneakers to climb a 14er in the snow. Needless to say, my group failed miserably. We returned the next year, prepared, and we successfully summited Holy Cross near Minturn, CO. After that, I climbed 6 other 14ers in later years, some of them quite technical, including both Maroon Bells, Pyramid Peak, and Capitol Peak. The opporunity to climb Kilimanjaro takes my climbing experience to a whole new level and I'm looking forward to sharing this experience with people who have similar goals. If you wish to make a donation, please include the names of people you know who have been touched by cancer. Those names will be brought to the summit with us.
"Hope inspires a positive attitude, which is a necessary tool to overcome cancer and come out on the other side with a more positive outlook on life. This is a key component to the CancerClimber Association's foundation and core beliefs."
Initially, CancerClimber had its sights set on funding cancer research, however after contemplation and realizing it takes many, many years for donated money to actually support research, we decided to help people touched by cancer now, not years down the road.
Each year we take a team to Africa and climb Mt. Kilimanjaro in honor of all the lives touched by cancer. Honor a loved one who has fought cancer by sponsoring a CancerClimber today! Please add the names of your loved ones in the “comment section” as they will be climbing with us on Jul 19th all 19,340ft to the summit! Their names will be on our Team CancerClimber flag that will remain at the summit to commemorate their struggle.
100% of the funds raised by each climber go towards:
- developing a mobile camp for young adults with cancer
- personal visits to patients by survivors to inspire hope
- adventure grants
- inspiring all those touched by cancer to focus on LIVING
The mobile camp for young adults will travel to children’s hospitals around the country providing them with the experience of a “personal expedition” while instilling confidence through a safe environment. Counseling and support to the children and their families will also be provided.
Our Mission is to help those touched by cancer by focusing on living an active, healthy lifestyle. To learn more about CancerClimber and how to get involved, please visit http://www.cancerclimber.org/ or contact us at email@example.com
