THE STORY:

CANCERCLIMBER ASSOCIATION wrote -

"Focus on the journey, not the destination. Joy is found not in finishing an activity but in doing it." - Greg Anderson

This July I am embarking on the most adventurous trip of my lifetime. I will be travelling to Africa and attempting to reach the Summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro, along with Sean Swarner, the founder of the Cancer Climber Association, and a team of new friends also taking on this challenge!

This trip is important to me for so many reasons. As a two-time cancer survivor, who spent over a week on a ventilator fighting for my life, living life to the fullest and inspiring others to do the same has become my main mission in life. It was after my diagnosis with MS that I started doing long bike rides, and it was after my first battle with cancer that I competed in my first triathlon. Now, almost 3 years after my second battle with cancer I am training to climb the tallest mountain on the African continent!

I am also doing this to raise awareness for all types of cancers and to raise funds to help children fighting cancer. Our team will be carrying a list of the names of people who have battled cancer, so please let me know if you have a name to add to the list.

I am hoping to reach the top of the mountain, and in an effort to make that dream a reality, I am training as often as possible with day hikes in NJ and NY, a weekly strength training class, weekly yoga, and cycling or running a couple times a week. If I don't make it to the top, because of my painful knees or altitude sickness, I will still enjoy every day of my attempt. The summit is only one aspect of the mountain! The journey up the mountain will be incredible! And afterwards I will get to go on a safari, which is something I have always wanted to do since I was a small child. I can't wait to tell you all about the adventure when I get back! Thanks for all the support!

I found this quote which sums up my perspective on this challenge:

"Focus on the journey, not the destination. Joy is found not in finishing an activity but in doing it." - Greg Anderson

100% of the funds raised by each climber go towards:

- developing a mobile camp for young adults with cancer

- personal visits to patients by survivors to inspire hope

- adventure grants

- inspiring all those touched by cancer to focus on LIVING

The mobile camp for young adults will travel to children’s hospitals around the country providing them with the experience of a “personal expedition” while instilling confidence through a safe environment. Counseling and support to the children and their families will also be provided.

Our Mission is to help those touched by cancer by focusing on living an active, healthy lifestyle. To learn more about CancerClimber and how to get involved, please visit http://www.cancerclimber.org/ or contact us at info@cancerclimber.org

Thank you for your support!!

Will be thinking of you Pat during your climb! This is in memory of my mother and father - both of whom lost their battles with cancer. Together, we can beat this - so others can be survivors. 3 years ago

In Memory of Andy Nadraus, my father. I miss him every day. Andy fought his cancer for over 15yrs. He loved his family, particularly his grandkids and spoiled us all any time he could. Andy had a soft spot for any child fighting an illness. I hope this helps one child to live an adventure, and forget for a while the battle they are fighting. 3 years ago
