BENEFITING: RAINBOW OF MAGNOLIA FOUNTAINS OF LIFE
EVENT DATE: Mar 02, 2014
We will be traveling with a small group of volunteers in February 2014 to Kimana, a small Maasai village in southern Kenya. We will be spending two weeks helping to build an orphanage. Rainbow of Magnolia Fountains of Life previously purchased land for a fruit and vegetable garden, along with boring a water well for the village. The well has helped the community flourish, including the children’s school enrollment more than tripling in size. We will also be visiting the school and offering any aid and manpower we can provide.
The funds we raise will go 100% toward our humanitarian efforts in Kimana. The volunteers will pay all of their own travel, board and food expenses.
We want to combine our passion for running and helping people by running the 2014 Kilimanjaro Marathon to help raise funds for this project. The 26.2 mile marathon takes place on March 2nd and starts in the town of Moshi, Tanzania. Mount Kilimanjaro will be in full view during the race with the altitude gain between 2500–3500ft above sea level, and temperatures in the 90’s.
If you live in the Seattle area, we are working with local running stores Super Jock’n Jill (Seattle Greelake neighborhood), Everyday Athlete (Kirkland/Juanita), Run26 (Mill Creek/South Everett) and Balanced Athlete (Renton) to help collect kids shoes, summer clothing and school supplies for the orphans and school children in Kimana. Each store has a bin on site where you can drop off items we will take with us on our trip. We’re collecting for children ages 1 to 14. Athletic shoes are preferred. Preferred school supplies include #2 pencils, sharpeners, and crayons (no paper please). The local running magazine, NW Runner, is also helping to publicize our efforts.
Thank you so much for helping out with our efforts to help children in need in Africa.
