In February 2011 a few friends and I will be going to small vilage in Northern Tanzania. The inhabitats of this village are maasai known as "Wa-arusha". It is a very remote and primitive village where the people are sticking to their culture. This semi-arid area is very dry and has been experiencing a major shortage of rainfall. There is no seasonal nor permanent river near by.
Women of this village have to walk an estimate 10km or more to fetch water for domestic use. They use donkeys as well as their own backs, carring over 20 litres of water.
Our goal is to build a borehole (closed well with pump), construct addition classrooms for students and plant many of fruit trees around the village. In addition we plan to bring soccer and running equipment for the local schools. All of this will benefit over 800 people living around this village.
I want to combine my passion for running and helping people by running Kilimanjaro Marathon in 2011 and raise money which will be used for this project.
The full Kilimanjaro Marathon 26.2 miles (27 February 2011) will be run from the town of Moshi, Tanzania. The race is run under the watchful eye of Mount Kilimanjaro, with the altitude gain being quite manageable and with the entire race being completed between 2500–3500ft asl.
Average tempetures at this time of year is in 90's.
Run Kilimanjaro Marathon will dedicate to all suffer hunger people in Africa.
