In 2012 I am training for TWO (2) marathons! Amsterdam Marathon 2012 was long planned and then I was given the opportunity to take part in the New York City Marathon two weeks later - I had to accept this once in a lifetime opportunity.
My injury last year meant that I was unable to take part in the marathon I was registered for, making up for it by running 2 marathons the following year may not *exactly* be wise but I am working hard to achieve this goal and stay injury free.
Each year I select a local charity to work with and this year I'm very excited to be partnered with Road Scholars, a not-for-profit youth running program which is part of the Chicago Area Runners Association (CARA), the group which taught me how to run, just 4 short years ago.
This cause is especially fitting for this, the year of my double marathon.
Running has changed my life in more ways than I ever imagined it could. Knowing the positive effects I have enjoyed I am particularly happy when I see organisations such as CARA Road Scholars taking initiative and introducing running to local City of Chicago Public Schools. Road Scholars takes children from less priviledged backgrounds and puts them through a training program with the goal of running a half marathon.
The youth running program is designed to challenge students to experience the benefits of goal setting, character development, adult mentoring, and improved heath, by providing them with a truly life changing experience. So far, since their 2008 inception, they have had 300 students successfully complete a half marathon! I know that once I completed my first half marathon I knew I could do anything! How wonderful that these kids can have the same opportunity!

2012 is shaping up to be an incredible year with starting a new job, exciting travel, becoming an American, going to the Olympics, turning 30(!). I'm so happy that I am able to put my running efforts to good use this summer. Giving back to the local Running Community is so important to me.
Please support me in my efforts to reach my goal of successfully completing two marathons this autumn as I raise $3,000 for this cause which means so incredibly much to me.
