The Kilimanjaro Orphanage Centre in Pasua was founded in early 2009 by Edward "Teacher" Lazaro responding to the recognized need to provide care and shelter to an increasing population of orphaned children in the Kilimanjaro region.
The AIDS/HIV epidemic in Tanzania has devastated an entire generation, leaving many children in desperate circumstances. To address this social need, the eventual plan is to care for about 100 to 120 children by utilizing a combination of present facilities in Pasua and a proposed new orphanage on recently donated farm land. The ultimate goal is to become self-sufficient as possible by maintaining a fully operational farm and developing a support network to help the children get the best education possible.
