Gildas Club-Metro Detroit's Fundraiser:

Kimberly Morse

Gildas Club-Metro Detroit's Photo

My name is Kimberly Morse and I have been married to my incredibly supportive soulmate Russell for 27 years. We have two amazing children, Nyssa (rhymes with Lisa) and Kody. Nyssa has blessed us with two beautiful grandgifts: Kalea and BooBoo who we enjoy spoiling or I mean loving too much! Genealogy is my favorite hobby and when I am not researching my family tree for hidden treasures or for clients I can be found spending time creating in my craft cave.

I am a 48 year old 4th generation (on my maternal side) breast cancer gal. Besides my grandmothers and mom, I have siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins that have had their battle with this “c” word. I had watched my grandmothers and mom start with cancer in one breast then years later spread to the other side. So I had made the decision when I was 18 that if cancer came my way both of my breast were being removed. In April 2012 I had the Roux-N-Y (gastric bypass) surgery for weight loss. By Jan 2013, I had loss nearly 140 lbs. Because of the amount of fat absent from my breast tissue at the time of my annual mammogram, they were able to detect the very earliest stage of my cancer. It was a slight discoloration on my skin, never formed into anything that I would have been able to feel. I thank my weight loss for saving my life. January 3rd, 2013, I was diagnosed with Stage 0 carcinoma insitu. After a bilateral mastectomy, negative lymph node biopsy, and healthy margins I am proud to say Dr. Sable reported I was cancer free. I do consider myself very blessed for having it caught so early and not having to go through the treatments my loved ones have had to endure. February 2014 I went in for my one year checkup and I am proud to be a cancer free SURVIVOR!!

This will be my second year as a model. Last year I was treated like a princess for the day with all the pampering, catering, make-up, hair styling and the instant “ta-tas” sisterhood bonds and can’t wait to do it again! I look forward to “strutting my stuff” on cloud nine knowing this journey was guided each step of the way by our guardian angel, the Queen Model herself, Shannon Watson!!
