Kimberly's Social Work Degree

Hey Guys!!! Okay so I'm about to embark on entirely NEW and EXCITING journey studying Social Work at Columbia this fall! The only problem is the cost. Tuition, fees, room and board equate to about 74K! Columbia has generously offered me a 20K scholarship this year but that still leaves 50K to come up with. I have the option to take out government loans- but that's not ideal due to interest, accruing debt etc- so hopefully that would be my last resort. Here's where you guys can come in! I'm doing this fundraiser to help offset some of the costs of this degree, including tuition, fees, books, living expenses (I'll be living in NYC for the FIRST time!). Any little bit can help and will go towards a good cause. The structure of the program (2 years) is the first year I study 3x/week and will be working directly (1-1) with a population in need (I've requested to work with refugees who have been resettled to the US for example, or it could be troubled youth, abused children, people struggling with addictions etc). Second year is a similar format but I'll have an UNPAID internship in a humanitarian organization (yay! but also it's FREE!). The idea is that both years I'll be devoting myself to working directly with people in need and also for a good cause, together, with a service oriented organization. Most of you who know me know that I want DESPERATELY to find something to devote my life to, giving back to humanity even in a small way. I've had some great experiences working abroad for humanitarian organizations and here for non profits and I really feel like this could be the next step to propel me forward (quickly!) on a path that's fulfilling and allows me to give back :) I thank you thank you thank you for even reading this and giving it consideration! Hope we can all come close to the goal together. xo Kim
