THE STORY:

Diagnosed on 1/8/2008 with Neurocardiogenic Syncope, I was still able to love a full & active life. My symptoms were managed with medications. I was busy teaching 2nd graders, attending graduate school, facilitating my school's recycling program, participating in bootcamp, cycling, running. I was on top of the world. On 12/12/12, that all came crashing down literally when I passed out & suffered a significant concussion. My health seemed to be in a downward spiral. Unable to complete sentences & being in a constant brain fog state, I called in sick on January 5, 2013. Little did I know at the time that that would be my last day teaching. My symptoms continued to worsen, I was hospitalized frequently & now am homebound. One of the most difficult decisions I had to make was resigning from my teaching position on 6/8/2015. You could say you can take the classroom away from the teacher but you can't take the teaching away from the teacher. So I continue to teach but on a different platform. It is my mission to "Advocate/Educate & Encourage people to Donate" to Dysautonomia Research. We must have more physicians qualified to recognize symptoms, properly diagnose & subsequently treat patients living with this disabling condition (on average it can take between 5-7 years to get diagnosed and seeing multiple physicians). Currently there are not enough physicians available leaving patients waiting up to a year or longer to see a specialist. This is unacceptable and must change. We must have affective & proven treatment plans (currently there are NO proven treatment plans for Dysautonomia). We must have medications that treat/manage the various sub-categories of Dysautonomia (currently, medications that are used for Dysautonomia are 'off-label' which means many insurance policies will not cover the costs). I am blessed & grateful to be surrounded by loving and supportive people. I hope you will consider making a donation to my fundraiser which is the Dysautonomia Advocacy Foundation. Money raised will be donated to Dr. Blair Grubb's Research Study currently underway and as you may know, Dr. Grubb is also my cardiologist. Thank you for your continued support! Much Love & Many Blessings Always, Kim
