Kinetic Students Generation Unleashed
Organized by: Matthew Merryweather
Purpose: • To activate and enlist students to be countercultural in their schools and community. To help them make a stand against some of the big issues facing their generation, and to evoke change through their stand against: o Bullying o Alcohol and drug abuse o Severe depression/suicide o Teenage pregnancy • To show them they can #bethe1, #bethechange, that if 1 will stand many more will stand with them. Goals: • Launch this program in local Grande Prairie middle and high schools. • Create weekly meetings at these schools to challenge, empower, and generate ideas on how to evoke change. • Hold “change” events off campus to create community and social awareness. o Silent protests o Concert/rally-with speaker • To create a culture of students who feel empowered to step in or stand when the situation calls for it. • To institute students into leadership positions within this program, to encourage positive peer leading and self-confidence. Background: So far, we have had great success with the same program, in a pilot project in Louisiana. Starting fall ’14 we engaged over 500 plus students about the biggest problems that they face in their daily life’s. That same fall weekly team building meetings began with these students. From Fall 14 “Bethe1” has been part on three School in Louisiana.
