Martin Luther King Jr. High school is a California Model Continuation High School which operates a full service bicycle repair shop on its campus. We are seeking to raise funds for a much needed upgrade to our shop in order to grow and continue to serve our students and the community. The bike shop's mission is to give kids the tools to be able to diagnose and fix broken bikes. Also after making and fixing these bikes, we donate them to those in the community that cannot afford to fix or purchase their own bikes. The idea came from the bike shop teacher (Theo) who as a kid, found the art of mechanics and has been fixing bikes for over 25 years. He describes the journey as "lifesaving" and that is the exact feeling we are trying to pass down to the students here. To achieve this goal, we have been scraping by on spare parts and the tools we already have. And, for last few years we have been managing on this; however the shop have become a victim of its own success. This is where you the community comes in. In order for the students to continue fixing bikes for the community we need donations to maintain the shop and to stock up on all the parts we need to keep making beautiful bikes for those who either cannot afford or fix their own. Thank you for your help!
