BENEFITING: KINGS COUNTY TENNIS LEAGUE
Kings County Tennis League (KCTL) uses tennis to build life skills for 200 children across five public housing developments in underserved Brooklyn, NY neighborhoods. We need your help to reach more children, families, and communities! KCTL wants to grow its program to sixth and seventh locations in 2016. Each expansion costs $10,000 and we don't want to cut corners! We'd also like to renovate one of our existing locations—a dilapidated tennis court right in the middle of Sumner Houses in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn—with a new surface and an actual net. This $20,000 renovation will ensure that children at Sumner Houses have a safe place to play and learn. As a result of our Marcy Playground Tennis Court in 2014, class size doubled and many of our students began playing with their families outside of class! We plan to realize the same benefit at Sumner Houses. Beyond tennis, we want to take our children on field trips to unique professional environments. We have a trip planned to an actual sneaker factory in Manhattan, but we need your help to raise $1,000 to fund it. Students will learn how a sneaker is actually made, see what it takes to run and operate a production schedule, and explore the path to entrepreneurship. In early 2015, we coordinated a student trip to Google's Manhattan office. We are excited to replicate this exciting career learning opportunity at the shoe factory and elsewhere. Every dollar counts. A donation as small as $25 will purchase a new tennis racquet for a child. With $100, we can buy a new portable net. We can do this with your help. Contributions of $100 or more will get a thank you in the form of a KCTL team t-shirt! A KCTL volunteer will follow up with you via email about your team preference and shirt size if you are able to make this gift.
