EVENT DATE: Apr 13, 2014
One elephant is killed for its ivory every 15 minutes. That's 96 elephants killed every day. If the slaughter continues at this rate, African Elephants could be facing extinction by 2025. But there is hope as the world is not without caring people. A powerful and influential non-profit organization called Tusk is supporting programs to safe the elephants and other African animals on the verge of extinction.
You know your friend as an avid Nordic skier and a marathon runner. I have been running marathons as a purely selfish athletic exercise so far. Now there is an opportunity to run with a purpose. I am joining London marathon, largest in the world, in April 2014 with Tusk to help save the animals from extinction. As part of my commitment to Tusk I am raising funds for Tusk for the conservation of wild life programs. The money raised will fund training, equipment and salaries for the community anti-poaching scouts. Please, help support your friends and the great cause. No donation is too small and your help is greatly appreciated. My goal is to raise £1,500.
WHERE WILL THE MONEY GO?
Tusk currently supports 53 field projects in 18 African countries that not only work to protect wildlife, but also help to alleviate poverty through sustainable development and education amongst rural communities who live alongside the wildlife. Conservation of wildlife remains a key objective with substantial funding being applied towards the protection of threatened species such as elephant, rhino, cheetah, chimpanzee, mountain and lowland gorilla, African wild dog, giant sable and even marine species such as turtles.
Tusk has, with its partners in the field, been at the forefront of promoting and funding community driven conservation programs. The charity’s holistic approach recognizes that the long-term future for wildlife is dependent on education and sustainable development.
Since its formation in 1990, Tusk has raised over £20 ($30) million for a wide range of projects across the continent. The charity has earned a reputation for being financially efficient, with an average of 80% of the net funds raised reaching the field.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
