Kirk Fleta's Wildfire Recovery Fund
Organized by: Friends of Kirk Fleta
Its all gone
December 04, 2016
Your friend, Kirk Fleta, lost everything in the tragic Gatlinburg wild fires on November 28, 2016. I say "Your Friend" because if you know him you're lucky. If you don't know him he's your friend too. You just don't know it yet. Kirk is unlike anyone you'll ever meet. He's an amazingly talented musician and songwriter. His voice and music are instantly familiar and frankly he makes everyone feel good. Everyone. RIGHT NOW KIRK NEEDS YOUR HELP. The fires completely engulfed Kirk's land on Norton Creek in the "Spur" area of Gatlinburg. On that land was Kirk's extremely rare, 4 wheel-drive Volkswagen Syncro camper bus, his storage building that he built, and the beginnings of his dream house he has been building by hand daily for years. Sadly, it is all gone. But thankfully, we still have Kirk! And Kirk has us! Please consider donating generously to this one-of-a-kind mountain man, this beautiful spirit, and our friend in need.
What he lost far exceeds his investments alone in the property.
The total estimated loss of property exceeds $200,000 and unfortunately Kirk did not have insurance. As you can imagine this is truly devastating.
In addition to his clothing, instruments, sound system, recording equipment, tools, his storage building, furniture, appliances, and building materials, he also lost his volume of creative writing journals containing hundreds of songs, all of his audio recordings, video recordings, archived show recordings, travel photos, family heirlooms as well as photos and recordings of his famous Spanish singing mother, Paloma Fleta and her father (Kirk’s grandfather), the world renowned opera tenor, Miguel Fleta.
The good news? As you might expect Kirk has been working on an a new album called “Travel Sessions” which is a compilation of live recordings and studio recordings of previously unreleased material that he has created along his life’s journey. For all those that donate to this campaign Kirk will be giving away a free download of the “Travel Sessions” album upon it’s completion in the coming months.
Another way that you can support Kirk is to download his classic album, “Bare Bones” on his bandcamp site for $10 right now. Here is the link: https://kirkfleta1.bandcamp.com/releases
This fundraising site was set up by Kirk’s friends. There are hundreds of us that care deeply for him. It’s time for us to give back all the love Kirk has given us. Let’s do this! Please give and then share this campaign far and wide.
We’ll leave you with these poignant words from one of Kirk’s awesome songs, “Life’s What You Make It”
Life’s what you make it. Don’t you think that’s true?
You know the only one it’s up to man is YOU. Life is what you make it.
That’s what I say. You know we make our own decisions every day.
Happiness is a state of mind. Peace and love aren’t so hard to find.
Peace & love friends.
