BENEFITING: OKLAHOMA CITY NATIONAL MEMORIAL FOUNDATION
EVENT: OKLAHOMA CITY MARATHON 2016
EVENT DATE: Apr 24, 2016
I'm running to remember each of the 168 lives lost.
I remember being in 4th grade and entering Mrs. Smith's music class and her telling us of her telling us of the horrible tragedy that happened in Oklahoma City. As many my age, this was my first experience with terrorism. I don't remember being scared. I remember wanting to help and wanting to do something. I remember watching the news in my parents bedroom and hearing the call for blood donors and wishing I was old enough to donate. Although at the time, I didn't know anyone directly affected, through my adult life, I have met many who volunteered their time, responded with clergy or mental health professionals. My strongest recommendation to anyone visiting Oklahoma for the first time is to see the Memorial. My first time visiting was when I was serving as a page for the Oklahoma House of Representatives. One of our night activities was to see the memorial all lit up. To this day, I take friends there, so they know what Oklahoma has overcame. So they understand how Oklahoma responds in adversity, in tragedy.
I'm excited for this opportunity. Will you help me in raising $500 for the memorial? Anything will be greatly appreciated!
