BENEFITING: DROPS FILL BUCKETS
We just returned from an amazing journey across Cambodia and while the country is in an intense moment of transformation after the horrors of the Khmer Rouge genocide, many rural areas still face severe poverty, lack of health care, and low levels of education, economic opportunity, and resources.
Sustainable Camobia has an admirable, integrative model that we'd like to support through the gift of a $15K village basket that would include everything to help empower and transform a rural Cambodian village. Families will receive clean water (wells, BSF filters, ponds or rainwater harvesting), from which fresh water will help to end disease. Irrigation will let the villagers start vegetable gardens. They will receive training and seeds for alternative crops such as sweet potatoes, peanuts, tomatoes, squash and greens. Malnutrition in children will be reduced, and children will be able to attend school and preschool. Families will be given the opportunity to raise honey bees, or start fishponds and raise ducks, or have pigs and cows.
These programs become self-sustaining through the pass-on process, through which this gift will continue for years to come as families become donors themselves, passing on breeding animals and water, fish and gardens to other nearby villages.
Sustainable Cambodia only employs native Cambodians as paid staff. All international officers, directors and consultants are unpaid volunteers. This allows them to keep overhead and fundraising expenses under 3% (which is paid by the founders), so literally 100% of your funding goes into helping the rural village families (minus the nominal transaction costs for Crowdrise).
Thank you in advance for supporting my 17th birthday wish! I look forward to seeing what we can accomplish together!!
