The Story

Kleefstra Syndrome Second Annual Virtual Walk-and-Roll: October 7-15, 2017, an international non-profit foundation, is raising money to fund scientific research projects aimed at advancing a drug treatment for Kleefstra syndrome (KS). KS is a rare genetic condition caused by a mutation or deletion of the EHMT1 gene. KS patients have intellectual disabilities, speech impairments and various other neurological and physical abnormalities, including walking difficulties, heart defects, kidney/urological defects, respiratory infections and seizures. There is no treatment today, however, scientists working with have begun making significant progress towards developing a drug. Funding remains the biggest hurdle and, as such, your donation and support can put a treatment within reach.

From October 7-15, 2017, will host its second annual "virtual" Walk-and-Roll. By virtual, we simply mean that there is no fixed location, route or specific time. Anyone in the world can participate on a day during the designated dates of October 7 to 15, along whatever self-designated local route (5K or 3.1 miles) they choose (with friends and family welcome to join in support). All participants can choose to either walk or "roll" (wheelchair, stroller or cycle!) their way to the finishing point. Proceeds raised will go towards developing a drug to treat KS.
