BENEFITING: Kucetekela Foundation
EVENT DATE: Dec 29, 2014
KLIMB FOR KF GOAL: $5,100
(= 1 full scholarship for 1 year)
It has often been said, in various ways, that the things you and I take for granted someone else is praying for. This is certainly the case when it comes to the children of Zambia, whose government-funded public schooling ends after only the 7th grade. As a result, basic secondary education is denied to a large portion of young Zambians simply because their families cannot afford it. With education being a bedrock of the developed world, how can we expect change in places where talented, deserving young men and women cannot gain the skills they need to bring about that change?
Enter the Kucetekela Foundation. “KF” is dedicated to removing these financial barriers for high-achieving, highly-committed students. And it’s working. KF graduates are now studying at university-level programs not only in Zambia, but in the US, UK, India, South Africa, and Costa Rica. By providing scholarships to top secondary schools, KF has studied and proven that its students’ families are spending proportionally more money on their other children’s education and on crucial staples such as food and water. Moreover, program alumni are using their skills, education, and experiences to give back to their own home communities. Incredibly, they have now started schools, health programs, and environmental projects – all thanks to a single KF scholarship.
KF’s website shares in greater detail what Dr. Oliver Barry and his team are doing in Zambia: http://www.kucetekelafoundation.org/. Your generous (and tax-deductible) contributions cannot be overvalued – it only takes one snowball to start an avalanche. By raising $5,100 for a single scholarship, we can give kucetekela – or "hope" – to one remarkable young student. Donations of any size will be most gratefully appreciated. For those who enjoy giving in symbolic amounts, perhaps a per-meter pledge would be appropriate. For instance, if I successfully summit Aconcagua at 6,962 meters, a penny per meter would equate to a generous gift of $69.62.
Thank you so much for your consideration.
