Knit Around The Clock: Team Dark Knit
Organized by: Rachel Tingley
EVENT DATE Apr 26, 2014
Loopy Yarns, a yarn store in Chicago, is hosting a marathon fundraiser knit-a-long for Committed Knitters. Committed Knitters are a group of teachers that teach women to knit in the rehabilitative section of Cook County Jail. They send the prisoners' finished projects home and follow up with them after release.
The knit-a-long is titled "Knit Around the Clock," and will be held at Loopy Yarns (47 W. Polk St., Chicago, IL 60605) from 6 AM on Saturday, April 26 through 1 AM on Sunday, April 27.
We are team DARK KNIT, organizing to knit for justice! Our team only continues to grow. Members (and their planned time of marathon attendance) include:
Rachel Tingley: (9 AM to 9PM)
Natalie Morse-Noland (12:30 PM to 6 PM)
This is an awesome opportunity to help women in need. They often do not have anything to do during the day, and knitting can help bring productivity, focus and activity to someone's day--and help bring their self-esteem higher through learning a skill. If you donate, you will be helping these women in a big way. The money will go toward materials for the knitters.
Here is an excellent article about the woman who runs the program: http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2011-09-09/features/ct-tribu-remarkable-smith-20110909_1_yarn-and-needles-cook-county-jail-yarn-store
Thank you for considering donating to this fabulous cause!
