BENEFITING: Rocking the Boat, Inc.
ORGANIZER: Green Street
EVENT: Rocking Manhattan 2017
EVENT DATE: Sep 23, 2017
Rocking the Boat (RtB) is an unlikely oasis in the grittiest neighborhood of NYC's grittiest borough--the Bronx. For more than ten years RtB has taught local boys and girls how to build beautiful, functional wooden boats (a fleet that now numbers 49!) And through the building of those boats the kids learn complex math, NYC's nautical history, rowing, ecology, sailing, biology, navigation, and so much more. When they move on from RtB, these kids graduate and go to college at rates similar to those in elite suburbs. 92% of RtB High School graduates in the last six years have graduated from or are attending 4-year colleges.
September 23rd is Rocking Manhattan, RtB's signature fundraiser, and Knots Unlimited, along with 15 or so other teams, will again grab oars, and row the 30 miles around Manhattan in the boats the kids have built. I've been a proud member of "Knots" for years, and this is year is particularly special as it will be my first major sporting event since my liver transplant in February. I hope you'll consider a donation to support RtB's incredible work, and thanks in advance.
