Assistance for Saipan
Organized by: Sue Shaw
EVENT DATE Aug 18, 2015
On Sunday, August 2, a little over a week ago, Super Typhoon Soudelor passed directly over Saipan. By Monday morning, many residents of Saipan were able to witness the devastation and destruction: ruined homes, flooded power plant, toppled power poles and cars damaged by flying debris, high winds or falling trees. Two of our employees from Hawthorne Pacific Corp. - Juan "John" Maratita and Chris Torres, have been impacted by what meteorologists are now calling, "Earth's most powerful storm of 2015, (www.usatoday.com)."
Both (and our only 2 employees on Saipan) have reported that there are no injuries to their families, but have sustained significant damage to their homes and vehicles. The uilities are still down in Saipan, including water, sewer and electrical.
Hawthorne Pacific Corp., Guam, and employees have sent over care packages including non-perishables and fresh water.
Collections are currently being made in Hawaii and Guam to help our employees, and online donations may be made through this site. If you are able to do so, please help out, even if just a little - every little bit adds up.
Hawthorne has committed to matching all donations, dollar for dollar, to assist our employees. All proceeds will be provided to helping John and Chris and their families rebuild their lives. Our goal is to raise as much as we can in the next 2 days so we can send the funds over this weekend.
