Kolbe Scott Fund
Organized by: Colin Hurd
The Kolbe Scott Fund is inspired by Colin and Kimberly Hurd's son, Kolbe Scott. At 20 weeks in utero, at a routine ultrasound, the doctors found some abnormalities pointing to complications in Kolbe's development . After many visits to the doctor they received the news that Kolbe had a lethal condition called Triploidy. Most babies with this condition do not survive past the first trimester, but Colin and Kimberly were blessed to carry him for 33 weeks. They believe that Kolbe's life, although short, is not insignificant. In Kolbe's 33 weeks he made a tremendous impact in their lives. Most parents are given the opportunity to raise, nurture and help their children grow but since Kolbe is not physically here, Colin and Kimberly decided to take the energy and time they would have had spent raising Kolbe to make a difference in others lives. The Kolbe Scott Fund is a donor-advised fund at Fidelity Charitable, an independent public charity. Contributions for the Kolbe Scott Fund go to Fidelity Charitable and all grant recommendations are made at the discretion of the Kolbe Scott Fund's advisors .All of the contributions are fully tax deductible up to 50% of adjusted gross income. The fundraising goal is $20,000. With the funds contributed to the Fund we intend to support charities that work directly with parents who have or will experience the loss of a child, like the SHINE program.
Although Kolbe’s life was short, Colin and Kimberly want to honor the legacy of their son. This fund allows Colin and Kimberly to keep Kolbe close to their hearts and help give him the chance to make a difference for years to come even though he is not physically present. While a fund will never replace the loss of a child, they believe it can gives them the opportunity to play an active role in growing and participating in the legacy of their child.
Their secondary goal is to be a resource for parents to help set up baby memorial funds in honor of their children. Many parents want to establish a legacy in honor of their child but lack the resources and information needed to quickly set up an on going giving tool.
